Review by Tony Cannella

It is difficult to get a feel on a band based on one song. Such is the case with Portland, Maine’s Heart Shaped Rock who has just released a one song single titled, “Brought it On”. They do have an extensive catalogue of music, which you can find at their ReverbNation profile, but to my knowledge they have only released singles thus far and “Brought It On” is their third following, “Dream Sequence” and “Karma”. Before getting into the review, I have to say that I love the cover art work, so that is definitely a plus in their favor.

Heart Shaped Rock has an eclectic array of influences and it definitely surfaces in the music. “Brought It On” is a middle-of-the-road paced song that has a cool rhythm and a strong combination of hard rock, blues, classic rock and maybe even some prog thrown in their as well – an interesting mix for sure. Vocalist Sheridan Giordano has a style that is very strong and forceful and perfect for the sound that Heart Shaped Rock is going for, she puts a lot of heart and soul into her vocals. I would say that Heart Shaped Rock is a band that can appeal to fans hard rock with a blues base, but fans may find other ways to categorize them.

Even though this is their third single, this is the first one I have heard and came away quite impressed with Heart Shaped Rock. Is this the pre-cursor to a full-length? Let’s hope so.

Rating – 75/100
