Interview by Tony Cannella
Sweden’s Sister Sin has been touring North America on the traveling festival, The Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem festival. The band is definitely one the main artists on the Victory Records stage and when I saw the band at the tour’s stop in Hartford, CT, they completely owned that stage and were one the true highlights for me. Even though they had a set time of only 25-minutes they managed to squeeze every drop out of their allotted stage time and left the fans wanting more. Following their set I had the chance to meet up with lead vocalist Liv Jagrell for a brief interview. This is what she had to say.
Sister Sin is currently out on the Mayhem Festival. How has that been going so far?
It’s been going very well. We like it very much and I think it’s better than we expected. I also think that we stand out compared to the other bands and I think it’s a good thing for us because people will remember us.
How has the audience reacted to Sister Sin throughout this tour? You got a good response today.
Yeah. A really good response actually. Maybe for the first two songs they’re just watching but after a while they get into it. We are gaining new fans every day.
The latest album “Black Lotus” came out last year. I wanted to ask you about some individual tracks. “Chaos Royale” in particular is a favorite of mine. Lyrically, can you talk a little about what that one is about?
For the lyrics, Dave our drummer, he is doing the lyrics so it would be better if he answered it, but I can try to explain. That’s just a kind of ironic song. Like today we have a lot of people wanting power that maybe shouldn’t have that power, so it’s a kind of ironic song about that.
Another one of my favorites is “Count Me Out”. Could you go into a little bit of what that ones about?
If it’s political, if its religion, it doesn’t matter it seems like people want to push their opinion on you. It’s like, “hey, keep me out of this. You can have your opinion, I can have my opinion, just don’t try to force your opinions on me”. And there is a lot of that today, people trying to force their opinions.
Where did the title “Black Lotus” come from?
Actually, nowhere (laughs). It’s not like a theme or something. We just found the name and were like “hey, this is cool”. Also the first songs we wrote for this album were a bit darker so we kind of feel that the title fit.
Getting back to your live show… What can fans expect when they come see you live?
A lot of energy and a lot of entertainment.
How would you compare a festival such as this to some of the big festivals in Europe?
This is a traveling festival. It’s different from any other festival because you get to see the same people every day, and that to me is really nice. You get to know the other bands, you get to know the people who work here. I like it. It’s just like a tour but with a festival side which is also very good. Compared to festivals in Europe, some of the festivals are like really, really huge and when you play there you don’t get to see many other bands, you don’t get to say ‘Hi’ to many other bands, here we see the same people every day, so I like it.
What are your plans following the completion of this tour?
We’re going to go back to Europe and do a couple of shows in Scandinavia and we have festivals in Germany.
Do you think you might do another North American tour?
We don’t know yet. We are talking about it a little bit but I don’t know if it’s going to be after the next record.

Keep your eyes on us. Come to our concerts. Pick up our songs or albums and just enjoy, enjoy yourselves.
