Butcher Babies – “Take It Like a Man” (2015)

Label: Century Media Records

Review by Alysha Hayden

Butcher Babies are an all American heavy metal band coming to your eardrums from Los Angeles. Fronted by two badass women with pipes to knock you back in your seat like a turbo charge. “Take It Like a Man” is their second album giving the metal community much to talk about. Like their much discussed debut, Butcher Babies have released this gem with Century Media Records. “Take It Like a Man” starts at full power with the creative “Monsters Ball” with opening lyrics like “Ladies and Gentlemen, children of all ages/Step right up and get your tickets to the greatest show on earth/Where you’ll witness death defying feats and acts of whiskey guzzling debauchery” who doesn’t want tickets to this ball? “The Gravemaker” (can I get a hell yeah for the awesome track name?) the emotion that is belted out by the frontwomen in this track is just supurb. The guitar solo ¾ the way through mixes the song up a little and I think it fits in nicely. “Dead Man Walking” keeps up the vicious energy with a catchy lyric set that’ll have listeners growling along long after the track has finished. Butcher Babies have coped their fair share of unfavourable reviews for this album and I honestly don’t see it. Perhaps they’re not a metal band for everyone but I’m more than happy to be a part of their audience. “Take It Like a Man” is certainly an improvement on their debut “Goliath” so I think the haters need to take a back seat and metal lovers need to give Butcher Babies a chance to prove them all wrong.
