Review by Warren Mayocchi

“Exorcism” is the second in a series of four season themed EPs by Emaline Delapaix. At five songs running for fifteen minutes in total length, with two versions of “Exorcism” the music is finished quickly. But there is sufficient to become enchanted with the acoustic folk presented to us. While the first version of “Exorcism” does have a percussive element along with multi-layered accompaniment, all the other songs a have minimal approach – typically the songs are mainly accompanied by a guitar or piano along with occasional orchestral additions. This of course means that Emaline has to carry the album with her songwriting and vocal performance. She does this well, keeping the folk-like sound consistent across all the songs. “Exorcism” will be included on an upcoming full-length album and the contrast between the production of it and the other songs make the EP sound like “Exorcism” the single. It is a song about removing the poison of a toxic person via an exorcism-like process. Emaline has created an organic feeling with her set of songs. Considering the EP as “Exorcism” the single, it works well and does create interest in the album that will be coming soon. The other songs are simpler in many ways, but still demonstrate Emaline‘s talent. In fact my favourite song on the EP is “Perhaps Saskatoon”. Looking forward to hearing what  will do next.
