Review by Tony Cannella

Hailing from Lisbon, Portugal, the metal band The Autist has been active since around 2014. It was in 2014 when they released their debut EP “Entangled”. Flash forward three years later to 2017 and The Autist returns with their debut full-length “The Coldest Sun”. What you get here is a combination of styles ranging from symphonic metal to prog to death-y style vocals and clean female singing. The main female vocalist is Russian singer Polina Psycheya and she does a pretty awesome job. In addition to Polina, other guests vocalists include Alina Lesnik and Chiara Tricarico from Temperance. It is Chiara‘s out-of-this-world performance in “Leviathan” that makes it one of the major highlights for me. “The Coldest Sun”“Fallen” and “Sanctuary” would have to be considered strong contenders for favorite tracks as well. The band sort of has an Epica vibe on some of the songs with the mix of strong female vocals and harsh style singing as well as progressive influences of some the songs. “The Coldest Sun” is a pretty freakin’ cool metal record. Throughout its 11-song, 52-minute playing time The Autist is successful in holding the listeners’ attention and that is pretty much all you could really ask for, well the fact that it has some kick ass songs is a huge plus too.

Rating – 80/100
