SleepCrime – “Everything Secret Degenerate” (2010)

SleepCrime are a modern rock/metal band from Queens, New York. They play down tuned hard rock music and that is exactly the style that can be heard on their debut “Everything Secret Degenerates”. The 38-minute disc commences with the thumping “Automaton”. “Selling the Calm” continues the heavy, down-tuned musical direction that dominates “Everything Secret Degenerates”. “Thamrongnawasawad” (interesting title, I have no idea what it means) is next and moves along at a heavy, deliberate pace. I’ll tell you one thing; there is no shortage of heavy as all heck riffs on display here, as the powerful “Bass Amp” will attest to. One of the more interesting tracks on exhibit here is their cover of the Alannah Myles classic “Black Velvet”. This was already a great song and SleepCrime has done it in their own style. Other songs of note: “Common”, “Slave” and “Hit The Floor”. All-in-all, “Everything Secret Degenerates” is a pretty good first effort from SleepCrime. The impact may not be immediately felt but it definitely grows on you if given the opportunity.
