The Way of Purity – “Equate” (2012)
Label : Wormhole Death/Aural Music
Review by Luisa Mercier

The Way of Purity is a mysterious band, Supportive of The Animal Liberation Front, they are convinced that in the future animals and men must be equal and they fight for this objective. The new record “Equate” is about this subject and moreover, it denounces on of the cruellest sins of out times: speciesism. That is a theory according to which men are superior to animals and justifies acts like vivisection. After an EP, released some months ago, The Way of Purity has recorded this new full-length that keeps intact the main features of the band. It is opened by “Artwork of Nature”, a violent, very aggressive track that mixes blackish riffs, female growling vocals and a little bit of melody that makes everything more dramatic. In “Death Abound Everywhere”, death metal guitars are mixed with just a hint of electronic, quite groovy. “Eleven” showcases female clean vocals and I have to say that they are really beautiful, warm and elegant, they shine through the record and are a nice change to the usual growl. The music is lesse brutal, a bit more “symphonic”. Doubtless one of the highlights of the record. Generally, the songs are very short, but it is something I am really appreciative of, because this way you can enjoy the true essence, the brutality without getting lost into details. Quite different from the rest is “The Last Darkest Night”. I would define it a slow/mid-tempo song compared to the others (apart from the usual black metal moment) and it has an interesting bridge. My favourite, indeed. The Way of Purity have managed to write an album which is catchy, but aggressive, which delivers a message but it is able to entertain a wide audience.

The Way of Purity – “Biteback” EP (2011)
Label : Wormhole Death/Aural Music
Review by Luisa Mercier

The Way of Purity was born in 2009 in Norway. The band literally came out of nowhere and the members are part of the Animal and Earth liberation soldiers. This EP is a sort of introduction to the new full-length meant to be released later this year. This record is very short, just nine minutes, and the first song “Keep Dreaming” is almost three minutes long and it basically is a mix of death metal and metalcore while the vocals alternate between clean vocals and growl with an electronic background. “Eternal Damnation to René Descartes” is very similar to the other song with death metal moments that become really apparent in the last song “Reverse the Time”. In the new full-length, only one song among these will be included and the style will change another little bit. I am just sorry that we only get a glimpse of Tiril’s clean vocals. They seemed quite sweet to me, so I look forward to hearing more of her in the future.

Eths – “III” (2012)
Label : Season of Mist
Review by Luisa Mercier

“III”, as the title says is the fourth studio album by Eths, French metalcore band (with multiple influences going from gothic to death metal). Maybe the modern metal definition is more suitable for them, it embraces all of their styles starting from the opener “Voragine”. In the first track and the second “Harmaguedon”, there is more melody than extreme metal and the vocals by Candice switch from growl to clean singing with no effort. “Adonai” is the first single and it is sung in English (at least in this version) and here things start to be a bit more extreme always paired with a lot of melody. Spoken part is very sexy. “Gravis Venter” is another catchy song where melodic vocals are to be sung-along and the result is quite interesting, with a symphonic ending. Same for “Inanis Venter” where harsh vocals juxtaposed to clean ones appear. In “Sidus” some black/death metal hints show up with keyboards and symphonic elements, while “Proserpina” has some electronic melodies. You understand that they have a lot of styles they draw from and “Proserpina” is just another sound example. There is no risk getting bored listening to them. Again violence in “Hercolubus” while closing track “Anatemnein” is haunting with a touch of growling. So, if you like metal with so many influences, female vocals or maybe you just like Eths, you will love this record!

Mechanical God Creation – “Cell XIII” (2010)
Label : Wormhole Death/Aural Music
Review by Tony Cannella

From Italy comes the Deathcore band Mechanical God Creation. Their debut “Cell XIII” is out now and it features 40-minutes worth of brutal and aggressive music. The opening track “MTBF” storm out of the gate and immediately the listener is punched in the face with a barrage of heavy riffs and the extreme vocals of Lucy. The next track, “Project Kill” offers no respite as the band just blasts through this one. Lead vocalist Lucy is sure to remind some listeners of Angela Gossow and the musicians provide plenty of technical precision to go along with ferocity of the music. The next three tracks, “2012″, “Process of Mental Killings” and “I Shall Remain Unforgiven” continues the vicious direction of “Cell XIII”. Other high points to look out for are: “Divinity”, “Trespass and Kill” and “Death Business”. Mechanical God Creation will surely not appeal to everyone but fans who love aggressive and brutal music are required to check out “Cell XIII”.
