Beyond The Black (read our recent interview here) from Germany is a band I have been into since their conception, having started with their debut album in 2015. Indeed, Songs Of Love And Death was an instant success and stayed strong in the German Top 15 for weeks, earning the Metal Hammer Award for best debut.

The sixth album Break the Silence
The band only ever seems to get better with subsequent releases. Regarding their current record and their sixth album Break the Silence, it is a strong melodic metal concept album focusing on communication and resilience, praised for Jennifer Haben‘s vocals, strong guitar work (especially Chris Hermsdörfer‘s solos), and a blend of signature metal with electronic/ethno touches.
There are standout tracks a plenty here on Break the Silence
And although a concept album, the songs do not necessarily have to be played together. There are standout tracks a plenty here, Rising High has a modern metal feel, Break The Silence is awesome sympho metal, and being a fan of Chris Harms from Lord of The Lost, The Art of Being Alone is to my ears an awesome track – the distinctive vocals of Chris together with Jennifer blend together very nicely indeed.
The album collaborations
Let There Be Rain (Feat. The Mystery of the Bulgarian Voices) is hideously catchy, while Ravens develops an atmospheric feel. The Flood meanwhile is a melodic metal belter and Can You Hear Me (Feat. Asami from LOVEBITES) is just damn excellent. The magical and catchy (La vie est un) cinéma is sung in English and French, the penultimate track Hologram is just awesome turbocharged symphonic metal, while the atmospheric ballad Weltschmerz which is sung in both German and English closes this awesome record. The album is to be released on January 9th 2026 and this record is to my ears what makes music great. Well recommended!
