“My Lover Is a Good Man”
“My Lover Is a Good Man” is led by the lush three part harmony vocals of Holland Belle (Holland Belle, Nightjacket, Casual Gloss), Allison Godleski (Pale Mara) and Helen Rose (Helen Rose, Air Cool Jenny), and supported by an airtight, sparkling country band evoking the sunny warmth of the the 1970s. The four songs on The Champagne Poneys are rooted in classic storytelling and the honest beauty of unadulterated voices and instruments.

Recorded to tape by Alex Wernquest (Camp St. Helene, Neon Moons) and mixed by Wesley Harper (Camp St. Helene, Lady Moon & the Eclipse), the EP features powerhouse lead vocals, sweeping instrumental solos and captivating vocal harmonies reminiscent of the blood harmonies from days gone by. The Poneys delight in uplifting the listener with a sound that graces the boundaries of alt-country, Americana and folk, while giving a nod to the dancehall music of West Texas and New Orleans.
The debut of the single
“My Lover Is a Good Man” was inspired by the wonderful men that the Poney gals are lucky to call husbands and lovers. The music video was shot, directed and edited by Ian McGuire of Triangle House. The Champagne Poneys EP will be available digitally and on CD Friday Dec 4th, 2026.The story of The Champagne Poneys began one wintery evening in a dusty backyard barn in upstate NY . Rehearsal was in full swing for a Lucinda Williams tribute performance put together by Helen, Allison and Holland showed up to sing a few songs. And someone suggested that the group try an improvised harmony arrangement of Lucinda’s “Fruits of My Labor.” The girls had barely met one another, but the musical chemistry was immediate.
“To sing with these powerhouse women” recalls Holland, “who really understood harmony, who could really go there…it was magical.” Helen had dreamt up the name The Champagne Poneys a few years prior and had kept it in her back pocket for the right moment. When the girls decided to form a band, the name stuck.
The Poneys band quickly became a family affair with Helen’s husband Kramer Sanguinetti stepping in on pedal steel. And Allison’s husband Lee Godleski taking up the bass. Ryan MacLean joined on drums and mandolin completing a groovin’ country band that would ignite dance floors across the Northeast. Earning them opening spots with top roots acts like Mama’s Broke and The DesLondes.
The Champagne Poneys will release their EP on Friday Dec 4th, 2026 at the Half Moon in Hudson, NY , and will appear at O+ Kingston Music Festival on Friday Oct 9th, and The Egg in Albany on Saturday Dec 12th with Pure Prairie League.
