Sorronia is a female-fronted symphonic metal band from Hungary! They have released their debut album, “Words of Silence” via Bakerteam Records and have received nothing but positive reviews from the metal music community. Fronted by the beautiful, female vocalist, Anna Király, who gives 110% to make sure that everyone knows, sees and hears that Sorronia is here to stay and ready to make a mark on the metal community. So watch out! I got the chance to chat with Anna about “Words of Silence”, her experience going on tour with Xandria last fall in Spain, and what Sorronia has in store for us in 2014. Stay tuned to find out more, right here at Femme Metal Webzine!

Hi Anna and welcome to Femme Metal Webzine. Thank you for allowing us to interview you today!

It’s been always a pleasure to give interview to zines like Femme Metal.

Sorronia was formed in 2006 with Sorronia Keyboardist István Biró and yourself. How did you come up with the name Sorronia as a band name?

Eventually the idea of the band came up in 2012 (but I had already worked in several older projects with István). We wanted to make a symphonic metal band influenced by classical and rock/metal music. Later we had the lyrics, the songs, the message – and the essence – of the band. There was no such word like “Sorronia” before (it comes from the word “sorrow”). It’s something what refers to us, to the songs, to our souls. What does it mean to you? 😉

What can fans expect to hear in your debut album, “Words of Silence” that is out now via Bakerteam Records?

They can listen to symphonic metal songs influenced mainly by classical music. What does it mean exactly? We took some motives from baroque, classicism etc. It’s something you can barely find on other symphonic metal albums. Sweet cello and violin melodies with the neo-classical guitar solos and gothic elements made to be cathartic by the symphonic orchestra.

What has been the overall fan reaction since the release of “Words of Silence”?

We are getting great feedbacks from our fan-base. I can proudly say people like our album. Our fan-reach is expending very fast since the release of the album. We are very happy to have such great support!

Do you think “Words of Silence” truly represents you and Sorronia?

Well, the songs on “Words of Silence” were inspired by life, and they introduce life in a tale like form. The lyrics are references to delusion, love, tragedy, anger and everything that a human being can possibly experience throughout life. We can say, this album of Sorronia is the very first step, the very beginning of a long, long journey what truly represents what we were and what we are searching for in the past and future.

How many songs were potential candidates that would be included on your debut album?

The album was planned in its full length. We were thinking of making 9 tracks for it and in the end so it was 9 tracks.

“Enemy of Yourself” is your latest single taken from “Words of Silence”. How would you describe this song in your own words?

“Enemy of Yourself” was the first song ever released by the band. It was our first step out to the big world. I like this song very much. It was also warmly welcomed by the audience and their support gave us big help bringing the other songs to reality. There is also a video clip available for this track on our YouTube channel.

What can you tell us about the songwriting process for “Words of Silence”?

The songwriting session for “Words of Silence” was a really serious deal. We were making meetings and rehearsals 3-4 times a week, mostly at night till the breaking of the dawn. We had several sleepless nights, stressed hours, lots of fun and practice together. It was a hard-working period for us but every bit worth it by hearing the now completed material.

When you began writing for “Words of Silence” did you have a set concept or idea of what you wanted to write about or did it just come naturally?

We can say both. I had a “natural concept” haha. As you may already know, this is about our/everybody’s life, experiences, about feelings and life terms we have to live through or have to survive. The plot was already given for me. I just needed some paper and a quill.

“Words of Silence” features rockin’ riffs, symphonic elements, heavy drums and beautiful melodies. Who is responsible in the band for writing the music and lyrics?

The songs and the orchestra are written by István. The guys are also taking part in the arrangements of guitars, basses and drums. I am writing the lyrics and singing parts.

If you had the honor to share the stage with anyone in the world, who would you choose and why?

We have several plans for sharing stage with others but they are currently kept in secret but I have to mention it was a pleasure to share stage with Xandria. It was a lifetime experience!

You were on tour supporting Xandria on their Winter Tour in Spain. What can you tell us about your own personal experience touring in Spain and with Xandria?

It was our first bigger volume tour so far from our home country (around 2500km). Spain is a beautiful country with so much awesome people living there. We were very happy to hit the stages of Madrid, Valencia, Zaragoza and Barcelona. I hope someday we will be able to go back there and rock the country again!

How is life on the road as a female singer in a metal band?

Sometimes I feel like a man haha. They always talk about mannish topics but I love them very much.

“Shattered” is one of my favorite tracks from “Words of Silence”. Can you talk us through the lyrics behind this song and what this song means to you?

The song is what the title stands for, exactly. I had a period in my life I felt totally broken. This piece describes that term, how was it possible, how was it like to live through.

Congratulations on signing with Bakerteam Records! Can you remember the exact moment when you heard that Sorronia was singing an album deal with Bakerteam Records?

Thank you! I was also present when István and Enzo from Bakerteam made the final agreement during Summer. It was a bigger surprise for he guys from the band. We were having a smaller meeting in a restaurant. Everyone was eating with “serious” efforts when István unexpectedly announced “By the way we have the record deal…”. Everyone started choking haha!

Do you have any special live festivals, special performances or concerts planned to promote “Words of Silence”?

There will be another tour of us soon to come. It will be officially announced in the upcoming weeks. I will make sure to let you know!

How would you describe your band’s current musical direction and where you would like to see this direction go?

Related to the music, we would like to continue the road we’ve stepped on by “Words of Silence”. We want to promote the best out of this album, and reach to more and more people with our music. We have big deals and big plans for the future.

If you hadn’t started Sorronia back in 2012, what would you be doing instead?

I never had a though about it. Never thought about what would be with me without music. I always wanted to live that way with music. I would be another person without it.

What does a typical day look like for you when you are not recording in the studio and not performing live on stage with your band?

I have lots of work around the band. Discussing deals, plans for the future. Meetings, management arrangements. There are lots of duties in the band for me apart from the musical part.

Do you have any final words you like to say to the Femme Metal Webzine readers and to your fans? Anna, thank you so much for taking the time out of your schedule to chat with us. It was a honor to speak with you and I wish you and Sorronia all the best of luck and more!

Thank you for this fantastic interview. I hope everyone will have the time to relax with their family. Rock on guys and always listen to the power of music!
