ISEEORANGE.

Welcome to ISEEORANGE

So first, Giselle, I wanted to thank you for your time for accepting this invitation. I wanted to, first, to ask you, how are you? And, you know, how is going the promotion of Wine Boy? Because I know it has been out since the end of March and that’s been crazy feedback about it.

Hi, thank you for having me. Yeah, it’s been wonderful. We released the song on March 13th when we were still in our little USA tour. We played at the New Colossus Festival in New York and then South by Southwest in Austin, and then we had a few shows in LA together with a recording of two new songs. So the song came out while we were in Austin, and it’s been really, really great.

We have a PR campaign going on for radio and articles, magazines for Wine Boy. Furthermore, we released a music video as well. It’s on YouTube. And it’s going really well. Yeah, we’re happy with it.

The new single from ISEEORANGE: Wine Boy

So let me get started about asking you about Wine Boy. Because, you know, I find it a really infectious song. And I really like it. I was wondering to know more about it.

Of course, yeah. Well, we really like that song. In my personal opinion, I never thought the song to be a single, but my bandmates, Cameron and Charlie, guitarist and drummer, they both really loved the song. It wasn’t like my personal favourite, but I learned to love it because of how much they love it.

But it has a very peculiar story behind it. I wrote the song out of pretty much boredom. After a long week at work, I was so tired after a long week at work at the office. So every Friday evening I will sit on my lounge with my guitar and a glass of wine. Either reading some books, poetry, or just play my guitar and see what I can come up with. I call those little Friday rituals my Poets Fridays. It’s just time for yourself that you need after a long week of work, and you are soulless at the end of the week. When I wrote that song, I was starting to drink red wine.

The story behind Wine Boy

I am Mexican but I moved to the UK five years ago. And in Mexico, we don’t really drink wine as a casual drink. However, when I came to the UK, they just drink it every dinner. And at first I was like “Ew, wine, no, I don’t like wine”. But at the end of the day, I ended up loving it. And I know it sounds really silly, but I got really inspired by how much I like wine. So one of those nights with some wine in my system, I wrote the song. I thought, “Okay, how can I take this kind of love that I’m developing for this drink (not in an unhealthy way) and put it in a song?”. So I decided to use it as a metaphor and basically turn this drink into a character, a person. And I made it a love story.

The previous single Mental Rot

And, you know, I mean, this year it has been crazy for you guys, especially 2025, because it has been a long run of singles and songs and tours and showcases. I know, for example, that KEXP supported the previous single Mental Rot. Like, it does crazy numbers on YouTube. It’s unbelievable, you know, how everything goes so fast.

We are really happy on how much attention the music video got on YouTube, it grew organically by itself. I think that we really captured the nostalgic side of it in those visuals. Because when people listen to our music or see us play, it’s pretty much the same all the time.

It’s like, “You guys sound like a band from the 90s”, but at the same time fresh. A word that always comes to us when a new person listen to our music is: nostalgic. I think the visuals of the Mental Rot music video, we really captured that in there. Maybe that’s why it’s doing so well or maybe it’s both.

ISEEORANGE collaboration with JPU Records

Another thing I really loved was your single, Doll Guts. I really like it, and since I love the Japanese music scene, it was also interesting to me because it’s the first time JPU Records has released something by a non-Japanese artist. At first, I was a bit confused when I read the press release, because I thought, “What’s the idea behind this?” But then I understood there’s a clear logic to it, and that it’s really a musical decision.

We got approached by Tom from JPU Records in Brighton last year when we played The Great Escape. I think he missed his train, and he decided to stop at the place where we were playing. And then that’s how he stayed until the show finished, and then he introduced himself to us. Since he wanted to expand his brand, we kept in contact and collaborated with him. I didn’t really hear of JPU records before. And I was amazed by what he does [JPU records releases mostly specializes on J-ROCK, J-POP releases].

Working with Philip Broussard Jr

ISEEORANGE is working on a possible debut album. I read here that you guys have just wrapped up a recording session in LA with Philip Broussard Jr. How was to work with him if you can say something? So I even understand if you cannot say a lot about it…

Well, what I can definitely say is that it was extremely new for us. It was a really good but at the same time a crazy experience working with Philip. He is a professional of another level. We were continuously learning the whole time. We also recorded these two songs in an old-fashioned way. Like the 90s indie bands we recorded them on a live session set up. Not only that, but we recorded for two days straight on from early in the morning to very late at night.

Working with Philip Broussard Jr [cont]

Oh my god, it was just crazy because we got to learn a lot. He’s amazing, and he had some crazy stories as well very like amazing stories to share from the bands he worked with. He was involved with the Adele‘s 21 Album and with Linkin Park. Indeed, he worked with amazing artists, and it was just really nice. We fully enjoyed this experience and truly wished it wouldn’t end. We would have like to stay there an entire week. It was definitely just a session on another level.

The most important lesson during that experience

What I want to ask is what did you learn about it during that session?

Just different way to record which we never did before. Up until now, we have separately recorded our instrumental parts. First, tracking the guitar, then tracking the drums, and lastly the vocals. Even though, we were in different rooms we were still being able to see each other. This time, we were playing live together in the studio. During all this, I was able to see Philip working and giving us advice on everything. It was wonderful.

“We record only two songs with him [Philip Broussard Jr]”

Even if I think it’s still a bit premature to ask if there are any concrete plans for when the album will be released. I probably wouldn’t ask that, because I understand everything is still in the process. But that makes me even more curious about it—I’m really curious, in fact. Especially because, as you mentioned, the idea of all of you being together day and night during the sessions is already a challenge, in the sense that there’s always a risk of getting on each other’s nerves and ending up arguing.

The same day we landed in LA, we went directly to the studio after an entire week of being at South by Southwest. It was crazy but honestly just the adrenaline and the excitement of having that opportunity made up for all. Also, we record only two songs with him while the other tracks of the album that we are preparing are already recorded. We have recorded those elsewhere. At the moment, I wouldn’t like to say that these two are definitely going to be in. Maybe, we don’t know yet.

The next plans for ISEEORANGE

And now, given all this, what are the next ISEEORANGE plans about, you know, touring, recordings, you know, the next projects?

Next, I think it’s going to be early summer when we’re going to announce the album. Indeed, we are on that process now of getting everything prepared including pick a release date for the official announcement. We are in the process of picking a focus track to be released with the album once is out. Consequently, we are working on the artwork too. Hopefully it will be announced soon because we really want to release this album.

ISEEORANGE: “We don’t have set dates yet [for the release]”

Wow. Yeah, I can understand how can it be. You want, you know, I think you want just to put out this album and get it out and going on tour.

Well, we have a few shows coming. We’re going to play The Great Escape again. We are just waiting on details to announce the dates. But we’re definitely going to play as much as we can during the summer. And once the album is out, our plan is support our album with a physical release. Our fans are seriously asking for it because we don’t have anything out yet. For example, we released an EP in 2023, and at the time, we didn’t print any physical CDs or vinyls.

Okay. Well, Giselle, I wanted to thank you for your time.

Thank you.
