GHOSTLY KISSES – new album released
GHOSTLY KISSES RELEASE BEAUTIFUL LP
VIA AKIRA RECORDS
SHARE “HEARTBEATS” VIDEO,
NORTH AMERICAN TOURBEGINS IN FEBRUARY
January 28, 2022 – Today, Ghostly Kisses have released their gorgeous new album Heaven, Wait via Akira Records. Composed and produced during the pandemic, Heaven, Wait was cobbled together remotely with producer Louis-Étienne Santais, Tim Bran (London Grammar, Birdy, Aurora) and Thomas Bartlett (Sufjan Stevens, St. Vincent, Florence + The Machine) in London and New York City, and included the gorgeous addition of FAME Studio’s orchestra string ensemble in Macedonia.
They’re also thrilled to share the video for the album’s stunning opening salve, “Heartbeat.” The video, written & directed by Fred Gervais-Dupuis, was created thanks to the generous support of FACTOR Canada. Speaking on the origins of “Heartbeat,” the bandleader Margaux Sauve wrote that “the song is about the transition from solitude to relationship.” Read more about the recording process and meaning of the song below. Last month, the group shared an intimate performance video of album track “Green Book” recorded live at le Grand Salon with cinematography by Zacharie Turgeon. The performance is evocative of the gentle and chilling nature of the album.
Beginning in February, Ghostly Kisses will embark on their Winter tour with stops in Los Angeles, Chicago, New York and more. After the band’s run of shows in North America, the tour rolls on for performances in Cairo and European cities such as Paris, London, Berlin and elsewhere. Full list of dates below. Tickets can be purchased here.
Sauve continues: “’Heartbeat’ was one of the first track we did for the album and really set the mood and the direction for the album. It was such a fun track to make and probably our most “pop” song ever made.
It’s the song that helped shape the sonic qualities of the album. It’s energy level is noticeably higher than the vast majority of tracks we’ve released previously. The main synth line/riff was made during a random attempt (failed, by Louis’ own words haha) to recreate Radiohead’s famous “Everything In Its Right Place” patch on his prophet. It then naturally led to adding drums and bass. The groove is inspired by minimalist house/techno and features a wide array of electronic elements and synths. Tim Bran really helped polish the sound by adding layers of synths, effects, and created the kind of ethereal vocals that you can hear around 1:55-2:00. A quite “ectoplasmic” vocal line haha…“
