Aetherna is a band new to my ears, despite being formed in 2015. Their first record Darkness Land was released in 2019 and Evathor is their long-awaited second full length album out now via Volcano Records & Promotions. Nine tracks on offer here with vocals ably handled by Tamara Secci who joined the band in 2023, but I am unsure who provides the occasional growls.

Evathor combining heavy metal, alternative and progressive
From the opener which so happens to be the title track and apart from the awesome power ballad Bright Star (to me one of the best cuts here), the album motors along at a decent pace. The music combines the power of heavy metal with the evocative atmospheres of alternative and the dynamic complexity of progressive, to give shape to an epic, dark and deeply introspective musical universe.
About Aetherna’s album: “Evathor is a journey”
Symphonic elements creep into proceedings at times, but what I will say is this record is a grower, so stick with it for it to unveil its musical wonders. Evathor is a journey within and beyond consciousness, between blinding lights and inner shadows, dystopian visions and spiritual awakenings. It’s a concept that speaks of identity, transformation, and awareness, in a world that forces us to choose who we truly are, and it is available on all major digital platforms.
