Bergfried, an Austro-Hungarian duo (Erech von Lothringen and singer Anna de Savoy) is a new one on me, but I must say that their first full-length Romantik III is an exceptionally catchy and a very melodic offering, which doesn’t sound nearly as dark as the song titles may suggest.

Romantik III: Anna’s epic continues
The album’s concept follows a character named Anna as she journeys through hell to find her lover, encountering both divine and infernal forces. In-fact, we have on offer a mix of melodic rock, melodic hard rock, flirting at times with pop and even metal, so an interesting mix for the listener to digest.
Getting into Romantik III
Dark Wings and Fallen from Grace offer a great start to the album, the latter falling into the pop/rock category with a catchy chorus to boot. Queen of the Dead is more metal, whilst For The Cursed is an AOR/melodic rock power ballad, harking back to the 80s. Moving on, further tracks include the galloping Gates of Fate, the pacey melodic metal of Serenades and the awesome 80s sounding catchy Tears of a Thousand Years, one of my faves.
The piano/guitar led power ballad Star-Crossed Love and the rockin’ Back for More end this 9 track opus, and I highly recommend this release to anybody who loves their music melodic and at times 80s sounding. Great stuff from Anna and Erech together with a few friends.
