German symphonic metal collective CORONATUS proudly announce their upcoming studio album Dreadful Waters via Massacre Records, a dark and ambitious exploration of the mysteries, dangers and mythic forces of the sea. For CORONATUS, water becomes a symbol of all that is deep, unseen, dangerous and awe-inspiring.

Welcome to the Dreadful Waters
While the previous album Atmosphere focused on threats in the “airy” realm, this release shifts the narrative toward oceans and seas: environments rich in myth, peril and emotional metaphor. Musically here, the band offers yet again an interesting mix of styles incorporating folk elements, dramatic orchestrations and experimental touches.
The top songs from Dreadful Waters
As a consequence, there are some rockers here such as the opener The Maelstrom with its awesome choral backdrop, the catchy and hard rocking The Ship’s Cook, the symphonic belter, The Siren, and the pen ultimate rocker Dark Ice. Then we have the folk rock of Through The Brightest Blue, the awesome To The Reef which explodes into an awesome rocker and the catchy A Seaman’s Yarn.
“A real grower and well recommended”
And let’s not forget the beautiful ballads such as Southern Cross and the closer Die Hexe und der Teufel. Vocals meanwhile are shared between the mezzo sopranos Leni Eitrich and Sabine Prechtel, and Nemesis gives us a more rock vibe in the vocal department. The album is catchy foot tapping stuff, a real grower and well recommended, getting released on January 23rd 2026. Meanwhile, CORONATUS will celebrate the new album with an exclusive release show on Saturday, January 24th at Bryggaren, Västervik, Sweden.
