To celebrate her 30th anniversary rocking on stage, the German Metal Queen Doro Pesch has released another DVD/live album entitled, “Strong and Proud” and this one is even more epic, more monumental than her previous ones. If you are already a fan of Doro, then this set is an absolute must and I can’t say that with any more conviction. This DVD/CD is put together so beautifully from the packaging to the contents contained within. It is just a beautiful package. The first DVD contains some tremendous live footage from the gigs at Wacken Open Air, Classic night and Rock Night shows in Dusseldorf performing a mix of concert standards (like “All We Are”, “East Meets West”, “Burning the Witches” and “Hellbound”) with songs that don’t get as much concert time like “Save My Soul” (a criminally underrated song) and “Without You”. There are guest stars galore. Phil Campbell from Motorhead, Biff Byford from Saxon, Udo Dirkschneider, Chris Caffrey and Lordi (to name a few) are all on hand to join in the raucous celebration. There are many great performances to be had here. Doro and her ever awesome band really do tear it up on stage. That right there would be enough to leave even the most jaded fans satisfied, but the second DVD is perhaps even better. The big thing is a 2 ½ hour tour documentary that takes the fans behind the scenes of Doro and her band on tour. It really is a great interesting piece and is my favorite thing on here. Some of the extras include additional concert footage from Wacken, Rock Hard Festival and Russia. Also included is a great audio CD featuring some of the live concert highlights. Doro has done it again. With “Strong and Proud” she has released quite simply one of the best live DVD’s I have ever seen.
