Distinct and recognizable elements of…
This is a work that cannot be easily categorized within one particular stylistic genre or another: it is certainly symphonic (a trait amplified by the imposing organ played by guest artist Alina Rotaru), but distinct and recognizable elements of doom, gothic, prog, and classic metal emerge, seamlessly blended together to create a marked and uninterrupted orchestral flow. And it is precisely the orchestration that serves as another cornerstone of Fire Waves, an album conceived to immerse the listener in its narrative and underlying concept—literally inspired by the outstanding performances of the musicians involved.
Fire Waves: a comprehensive work that took five years to create and refine
A comprehensive work that took five years to create and refine. It comprises thirteen tracks, most of which exceed five minutes in length—a duration that demands careful attention and respect; songs interconnected with one another that must be considered in their full depth, inseparable from the single entity that is Fire Waves. Otherwise, the risk of failing to fully grasp the compositional and narrative efforts undertaken by the band is evident, and the emotional tension would certainly be lost. But if I had to pick a track, I’d choose And Dark Was the Sight of the Thinking Man, the epitome of symphonic metal—eight and a half minutes of pure pomp rock that seems to come straight from the 1970s, almost a tribute to Gregg Giuffria and Punky Meadows’ Angel.
Last words on…
We recommend Fire Waves to a broader audience than just die-hard symphonic metal fans—one that is nonetheless discerning and capable of appreciating the talent of Dragos Grigorescu, Catalin “Flama” Scanteie, Georgiana Bogdana Stoian, and their many indispensable colleagues.
