In 2016 High Fighter released their first full length album, “Scars and Crosses”. It had an interesting cover and good songs. They are back in 2019 with “Champain” and they have turned everything up to eleven. “Champain” does contain a gradual build-up in opening track, “Before I Disappear“, and a gentle interlude or two. However, after the initial build in the opener, every song onward is a band operating in full force. So much a force, it took a few listens to experience the album well enough to produce a coherent stream of thought to support the creation of these words. My initial reactions were subconscious and physical, and I keep wanting more. Each song is a concentrated burst of riffage, beats, and intensity which is more alike heavy rock than what High Fighter produced previously. The vocals however push each song into an area which most would call death metal. Clean singing and guttural screams share equally in the delivery of each track. For this reason you will probably want to sample the music in the (sound only) singles available through Argonauta Records. Anyone who likes what they hear in any sample from the album will enjoy the entire composition. It is certainly not easy for me to pick any favourites from the playlist – perhaps what I enjoy best overall is the rhythmic interplay between the drums and guitars in combination with the wrenching vocal performances. The album cover art is what I remember most about High Fighter‘s prior release, this time around I will be remembering the brutally excellent songs
