French artist Lucie Sue‘s debut UK album Battlestation (her second overall) features a fusion of anthemic rockers, gritty punk moments, dark heavy guitar riffs and explosive energy. The title track is a catchy thumper to start the album, and offers the perfect menu as to what is to follow.

The highlights of Battlestation
Hush and Ride The Wild Tiger, the latter featuring Satchel from Steel Panther, take on a more hard rock vibe, but a punk undercurrent is always there. Thereafter, highlights to my ears include the ballad Bela that morphs into a mid tempo rocker, the driving riffs of the punk anthem The Famous Last Words, the interestingly titled I Will Shit Where You Sleep, the brief but grunge sounding Boring and my overall favorite, the commercial sounding Reckless.
A defiant message of hope and self-belief
Key aspects within the thirteen tracks are the honest lyrics that draw from Lucie Sue‘s personal experience, her childhood, relationships, love and grief. And then we have the unexpected collaborations such (including Satchel of Steel Panther), the album’s overall defiant message of hope and self-belief, and that one can achieve anything no matter their age. Well worth checking out!
