Temperance – “The Earth Embraces Us All” (2016)

Label: Scarlet Records

Review by Tony Cannella

Italy has been such a great breeding ground for so many great metal bands over the last few years. One of my favorite bands to emerge from Italy recently is the excellent melodic metal band Temperance. The band formed in 2013 and released their killer self-titled debut a year later. They followed that up with their even better sophomore release “Limitless” in 2015 and now return with album number three, “The Earth Embraces Us All” which may be their best one yet. One thing I really love about Temperance is their ability to add different influences and nuances to their sound. They have elements of symphonic metal, prog and even include saxophone in a few of their songs. It all adds up to their most ambitious and diverse album to date. The songs are well written and includes passages that are intricately played, yet still simple enough to appeal to a wide audience. The duel male/female vocals between Chiara Tricarico and Marco Pastorino (who also plays guitar) are very well done. Highlights include: “A Thousand Places”, “At the Edge of Space”, “Unspoken Words”, “Advice From a Caterpillar”, “Revolution” and the almost 13-minute epic “The Restless Ride” which closes the album. “The Earth Embraces Us All” is another phenomenal chapter in the evolution of Temperance. This should be required listening for fans of melodic metal.
