Review by Luisa Mercier

The Jezabels come from Austrialia and their self-released was quite a plesant surprise for me. I have to admit that indie rock, indie music in general is not among my favourite music of choice when I have some spare time. But when I put “Prisoner” in my player I was blown away by its dark, mysterious, yet captivating intro realized through an organon. I really thought I had picked the wrong CD. Rock, keyboards and overall an epic, gloomy mood that I really love. The first single is “Endless Summer” and it is overall much more positive and fresh without losing the epic feeling well conveyed by the singer Hayley Mary – The influence of the ’80s, darkwave and U2 is crystal-clear, so the songs are not very original, but who says that you have to be different to be good? The production is perfect, the songwriting is carefully well-crafted and catchy; I always think of this like a perfect record to play while on a car trip along the beaches on the end of the day. Lately Oceania is offering me a lot of interesting releases both in rock and metal, maybe is the new horizon for some genres that are a lot abused here in Europe. Really recommended, I swear that we will hear a lot about them in the future.
